Pāteke release at Awaroa inlet

In May 2017 20 rare pateke / brown teal were released into the Abel Tasman National Park by Project Janszoon and DOC. This is only the 2nd mainland site in the South Island where pateke are found and if the ducks do well up to 300 will be released over 7 years.
