Shane’s strong connections and aspirations with Mohua, Whakatū and Wairau are reflected in his work as Pouwhakahaere for Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Rārua. Outcomes that ensure the environment and our society and culture thrive drive the daily work of the iwi.

Prior to joining Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Rārua, Shane has a long public service background having worked with Department of Education, Department of Internal Affairs and Te Pūni Kōkiri. Shane has whakapapa to Tainui waka through his iwi of Raukawa and Ngāti Ranginui and has resided in Te Tauihu for over 40 years.

Shane holds a number of qualifications including a Masters of Māori and Management, BDA, and Diploma in Māori Law and Philosophy from Te Wananga o Raukawa.
